My Journey Into The Media Space

"Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step".
-Lao Tzu
It is observed that the more you say, the less people remember. The fewer the words, the greater the profit.

I will try as much as I can not to make this post lengthy, but if it does; please be kind to read and deduce from it.

Three months after my Diploma, I proceeded for internship at the Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Pioneer Newspapers; after searching tirelessly for where I could get paid as an intern.

That journey wasn't easy but I remain eternally grateful to God for the vision He gave me/and on time.

Still on this quest, I remember visiting a veteran journalist who in his opinion advised me not to be money conscious.(Aww! This is sure coming at the wrong time). I whispered to myself as I expected him to give me an offer.

Wait a minute! Did I mention that he (the said man) is a government official? Oh yes he is! Trust me, nothing is more traumatizing than seeing someone in a position to help you real good yet speaks otherwise.

That was exactly what happened to me. He spoke to me in a different tone, though friendly but stronger than anticipated. Long story short, he personally recommended me to Pioneer Newspapers. I had no choice but to do exactly as he instructed.

While at Pioneer, I was dedicated and committed to the assignments given to me. Had no excuse or whatsoever not to report to the News Editor as at when due. An opportunity showed up, I was saddled with responsibility to oversee a project amongst my colleague. Meanwhile, I wasn't paid. The most annoying part was when you still have to buy a paper you have your "By Line" on. Then I met someone I wouldn't forget in a hurry.

"I see greatness in you, I see you interviewing your Rector" Philip said! I smiled and imagined; "how is this possible?!" Few weeks later I and my friends went in to interview the Managing director/Editor-in-chief of the Pioneer Newspapers, wrote a story and had same published. Guess what?! I saw that as a manifestation of what Philip told me.

The fact that I was and still inquisitive about learning something new and life changing actually exposed me to top intellectuals.

There are moments in life where one needs to pause, take a deep breath and reflect on certain things... This was absolutely what I did and realized that I needed to redirect/re-strategize my plans. Six months later I was called up for interview at Akwa Ibom International Airport and was deployed to Commercial and Business Department.

The experience was worth it! Having to serve outside your area of professionalism.

While there, I really was opened to so many opportunities though none seemed to fall in line with my passion. I have always loved talking to people especially in a group. My other calling is to be a "Perception Corrector and as well Life Disruptor".

At school, I had a friend who turned brother. He introduced me to a career opportunity in a TV station where I was trained in social media marketing and management. I remember having a deep conversation with him and had to disclose where lies my passion. "Samuel, you're in the right place and at the right time", he acknowledged!

My entry to Lagos State has literally serve as an eye opener; from one turning point to another amidst tough and hard times.

With passion, I enjoy what I do; and for the love of it, I get it done to the extreme, beyond client's expectations.

Recall that I did a post recently talking about having content and knowing your niche, click the link to read >>> http://bit.ly/2xtFJw4

Sometimes when preachers preach, what they preach about what may likely happen or must have happened to them. What I talked about in the post on the above link happened to me, but yesterday's was the height of it.

I was away from work for a month, on resumption, only for the show host, Ezugwu Chukwudi to approach and asked me to join him on the show. Trust me, I felt like disappearing. If you know any better word to describe it other than IMPROMPTU, please use it! It wasn't any other show on TV but a political show.

I said to myself "this is one big opportunity I have to face and embrace".

Did I mention that it was my first time on set? Oh yes, aside being an impromptu interview, it really was my first. Nevertheless, I was brave, concise and real.

The callers who called in the show commended my efforts in responding to the questions with apt.

Let me leave you with this quote.
"For everything in this journey of life we are on, there is a right wing and a left wing; for the wing of love there is anger; for the wing of destiny there is fear; for the wing of pain there is healing; for the wing of hurt there is forgiveness; for the wing of pride there is humility; for the wing of giving there is taking; for the wing of tears there is joy; for the wing of rejection there is acceptance; for the wing of judgement there is grace; for the wing of honor there is shame; for the wing of letting go there is the wing of keeping. We can only fly with two wings and two wings can only stay in the air if there is a balance.
"Two beautiful wings is perfection. There is a generation of people who idealize perfection as the existence of only one of these wings every time. But I see that a bird with one wing is imperfect. An angel with one wing is imperfect. A butterfly with one wing is dead. So this generation of people strive to always cut off the other wing in the hopes of embodying their ideal of perfection, and in doing so, have created a crippled race".

I pray by your own hopes and decisions you shouldn't create a crippled race.
