Here are 9 ways to overcome the barriers to your academic success:
1. Manage your time well.
Balancing your time well can be a big help in doing your school works. Do not let your social relationships take over all of your time. Don’t lose sight of doing well in school especially when you have goals in life.
When torn between hanging out with friends and your school work, make sure that you have set a schedule when meeting up with them. In that way, you will not cram in finishing your works that need to be done.
2. Tell someone if you’re being bullied or threatened.
Bullying is a serious issue in school, you shouldn’t hide it when you are experiencing it too. You should stand for the people who bring you down. And when the situation really gets worse, do not be afraid to talk to your guidance counselor or your parents. Never be afraid to tell anyone, they will help you with what you are going through.
Drama can be very damaging especially when it gets worse. Avoiding it as much as possible will help you be stress-free. Do not spread rumors about other people and when you experience it too, do not hesitate to stand up for yourself and tell other people. Nobody deserves to be disrespected like that.
3. Choose your friends wisely.
Having true friends in school is good especially when you need to vent out problems and other frustrations. Choose your friends who do not take you for granted and will only talk to you if they need something. A true friend will be there for you even when they don’t need anything from you. And a true friend also influences you with doing well in your studies as well as enjoying your social life.
Have a friend who is someone you can lean on in good times or in bad times. And of course, someone who will encourage and support you to be better and will be there for you every step of the way.
4. Rethink your constantly up and down relationships.
Having a partner when you’re still studying can be a good thing but it can affect you in a bad way when you have a toxic relationship. Try to reconsider if it still works for the both of you or it’s already affecting both of you badly. Romantic relationships can motivate you to do better in school but if your relationship has been on and off for so long and it affects both of you then it’s time to reconsider if it’s still worth it or not. It is better to let things go than to keep something that will not be beneficial for the both of you.
5. Have a positive attitude.
Life can make you feel discouraged and lonely but always keep in my mind that it will all get better in the end. Being optimistic can help you feel less worried and start looking forward to the future. A negative mind or thinking will not give you a positive life. Life can be really hard but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Focus on the things that are important and will make you achieve your dreams in life.
6. Open up to your family.
Whenever you’re struggling at school, do not hesitate to open up to your parents or siblings. They know you better than the others. They can give you the right advice and will support you in what you are doing. Their support alone can encourage you enough to conquer any obstacles you face in school.
7. Prepare.
Nothing can beat a person who is prepared. Organizing your schedule, and having a to-do list can be a big help in doing your school works. You can also avoid cramming when you have a list of what project/school work should you do first. This will also help you to be less stressed whenever there are a lot of things to do.
8. Get rid of distractions.
When you are working on an assignment or a project, avoid getting distracted such as using mobile phones or laptops to watch a movie or scroll through your social media account/s. There is a time for everything, you can finish your work on time when you’re not distracted.
9. Reward yourself.
When you have achieved something whether it is a big thing or not. You should reward yourself once in a while for doing well. In that way, you would not feel burned out in studying and doing your school works. This can also be your way of relaxing after all the stress you’ve encountered. You deserved it.
There will always be challenges that will come to you as a student or life in general. Applying these ways to your life can help you become less stressed on how you handle problems. Always know that problems are temporary and they are there to help you improve to become the best version of yourself. And no matter how hard the problems or challenges may be, remind yourself that you are not alone in this battle and you are not going to be stuck in that situation forever.
